James Lewis CEng MICE
Hive Structural was founded, and is run, by James Lewis, a Chartered Engineer with 20 years of experience on a wide range of structural engineering projects.

James has worked for structural engineering design firms in Edinburgh and Galashiels, dealing with a range of domestic and commercial projects. Domestic projects have included attic conversions, extensions and new build houses. In the commercial sector, he has worked on projects for the National Trust For Scotland and the refurbishment of the Royal Museum of Scotland. He also spent a year
in New Zealand, designing structures for the industrial and agricultural sectors.

Being based in Galashiels for five years, running the Borders and East Lothian office of a company, James has a good knowledge of these areas. With Hive being based in Portobello, he is perfectly placed to head to site in Edinburgh, The Borders, East Lothian and further afield.

His design experience on over 2500 projects in the domestic, commercial, educational and council sectors has led to some fascinating projects. Highlights include a mosaic Nessie sculpture in South Queensferry, a viewing structure for the RSPB in Alloa, and an education pavilion at Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve near Dundee.

James works best when working hand in hand with Architects to help clients achieve their goals in the most efficient and elegant way possible.

Neville Rae,

We engaged James to assist in the structural design work required to convert our house from two bedrooms to three bedrooms, The works included installation of a Velux rooflight and structural newel post. James was professional and friendly in his approach to our project, providing some great suggestions we hadn't initially considered. With a prompt service and good communication throughout, we quickly had the design plans and SER Certificate to allow us to be granted a building warrant for the works. A first class service all round from James and I would have no hesitation in recommending him.
